Task 2: Research Technologies

 Task Overview

Assignment two involved selecting a topic that we had particular interest in as a teacher. We were then required to investigate how technology can or is used in a education setting to assist with the teaching and learning of the topic. Researched involved the use of five different resources these included the following: Book, journal article, refereed conference paper, website and movie or podcast. For each resource we were asked to write a short paragraph that summarised the content of the resources found, creating one whole word document. This document then needed to be uploaded to our personal website that we created for assignment one, 'social technologies.' Referencing for this assignment included the use of the programe called EndNote.

Mathematics

An area of particular interest to me as a future teacher is the subject Mathematics. Mathematics is one of the most challenging subject's students experience in their primary education, as they struggle to comprehend and understand the rules and process required for different Maths topics. As a result the topic that I selected for task two was the use of technology to improve Mathematics skills in the classroom. I believe that adapting the avaliable technology to the education of Mathematics assists in the development of students' understanding, increasing their proficiency in Mathematics. With the use of search engines such as Google, Google Books, YouTube, Eric and Murdoch's online library I was able to find how others are effectively using technology to teach Mathematics in a school environment.    

EndNote

EndNote is a useful software programe that can be used to manage bibliographies and references when writing essays or other forms of written text. Endnote simply works by selecting a 'referencing style' for example for this assignment i selected 'APA 6th' and then selecting a 'referencing type' such as a website of journal article. Once referencing type is selected you then need to fill out the necessary fields and EndNote will automatically format the citation into the selected style. Once you have created a library of your resources you can then use EndNote at any time you wish to insert an in text citation. When inserting in text citations to your text EndNote will automatically generate and insert the full reference at the end of your text creating your bibliography.
